At a time when school openings are in flux and online learning is at the forefront, teachers are rushing to learn what some of us have been begging for. Engaged integrated technology based learning that allows children to create and innovate to reinforce learning concepts.
Online learning faces many challenges. How do you provide an enriched experience? While online learning can never replace in-person classrooms, what do we need to do to get as close to it as we can? Online learning shouldn’t mimic classroom instruction, it should inspire a new model.
I live in a city that sees so much poverty. Some of our culture bearers and their families struggle. A large percentage of our students are on free and reduced lunch programs. Whether a student is graduating and going to college or not, most students are going to need to get a job. I believe at my core that establishing a structured path for students to learn technology skills will provide a range of opportunities in their future. I’d like to help create the roadmap and support teachers and students on this “journey”.
Much of the attention is focused on getting teachers the skills they need to start the school year but there’s so much more. This is an opportunity to also include design, intention and support for students, parents and administrators as we navigate this new normal. This is an opportunity to reach out to parents and provide them the resources they can use to be part of the educational team.
I want to use my passion for education, my love of my community and my patience and skills to help at this critical moment. Whether I’m designing resources or supporting students, parents, teachers, or administrators, this is what I’m meant to do.
